Spending money by using this type of card can be fun and economical.
- Reducing the principal on your home mortgage can dramatically affect the life of the loan. Think about using your refund to shave some years off the loan, while saving money in interest. It might seem like a small amount today, but even the smallest amount can make a dramatic difference down the road.
- If you’re on sound financial ground, make a good income, and your tax return check is just burning a hole in your pocket, why not invest in yourself? Treat yourself to a class you’ve been dying to enroll in; make a down payment on that new car you’ve had your eye on; a family vacation is always fun. Just be practical. It’s alright to splurge a little, but not to the point of feeling guilty or sorry for how those dollars were spent.
- Lastly, and most importantly, if you are able, give back by supporting the charity of your choice. Helping those less fortunate, or donating to projects that help your community is an investment with priceless returns. A gift to a qualified charity may entitle you to a tax deduction. This option is a win-win, both for you and for the entire community.
